Welcome to Part Two of the interviews we conducted backstage at the 2024 edition of the Premier Gala de l’ADISQ held on Oct. 30 at MTELUS.
CRi
After winning the Félix for Album of the Year – Electronic and Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2021 for his LP Juvenile, Cri (aka Christophe Dubé) has expanded the boundaries of his music by travelling the world for his second album Miracles – which earned him another award at the ADISQ Premier Gala on Oct. 30, 2024. Do travels truly shape one’s youth? According to the artist, they certainly give us a different perspective on the humanity of the inhabitants of this small planet, when they’re united by the power of music.
Elisapie
Elisapie was named Aboriginal Artist of the Year at the 2024 ADISQ Gala, after winning in the Contemporary Aboriginal Artist or Group of the Year category at the JUNOs in Halifax earlier in 2024. She followed suit with four additional Félix awards for her album Inuktitut, namely Album of the Year – Reinterpretations, Best Album Cover, and the Production and Arrangements honour for her collaborator, Joe Grass. In this interview backstage at the Premier Gala, she talks about her work with Grass.
Karkwa
One thing’s for sure: 14 years after Les Chemins de verre, Karkwa has made a successful comeback, both on record – with Dans la seconde – and onstage, with a tour due to conclude before the end of 2024. We met the winners of four Félix awards at the first two ADISQ galas – including Album of the Year – Rock – in the press room.
Roxane Bruneau and Mathieu Brisset
The collaboration between Roxane Bruneau and her main working partner and producer Mathieu Brisset is the most striking recent example in Québec of a successful creative match. The duo struck gold again with the Album of the Year – Pop Félix for Submergé. We met them backstage at the Premier Gala, at MTELUS, to try once and for all to discover the secret of their success.
