Welcome to Part Three of the interviews we conducted backstage at the 2024 edition of the Premier Gala de l’ADISQ held on Oct. 30 at MTELUS.
Rau_Ze
Thanks to ADVANCE, Canada’s Black Music Business Collective, a new category for Album of the Year – R&B/Soul was inaugurated at the Premier Gala de l’ADISQ in 2024. It was the duo Rau_Ze who had the honour of being its first recipients, with the LP Virer nos vies; they also won the Prix collégial de la chanson de l’année, for the song L’Habitude, presented at the Gala de l’Industrie. We talked with the pair of singer-songwriters, Rose Perron and Félix Paul.
Dominique Fils-Aimé
Dominique Fils-Aimé receives high praise wherever she goes. After winning the Best Jazz Vocal Album JUNO in the Spring of 2024 in Halifax, she went on to win the Félix for Album of the Year – Jazz for Our Roots Run Deep at the Premier Gala de l’ADISQ – where she also gave an incredibly inspiring performance. We chatted in the media room to gather her impressions.
Angèle Dubeau
A week after announcing that she could no longer play her beloved 1733 Stradivarius violin because of irreparable nerve damage in her hand, virtuoso Angèle Dubeau won her 21st Félix: Album of the Year – Classical for Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà Signature Philip Glass, making her the most successful classical music recipient across all categories of the various ADISQ galas. It was with mixed emotions that she accepted the award, and she shared her feelings with us in the media room at the Premier Gala.
Flore Laurentienne
With his Flore Laurentienne project, Mathieu David Pelletier-Gagnon is committed to constantly pushing back the boundaries between various musical genres, such as ambient, electronic, experimental, and prog-rock. He’s done so on his album 8 tableaux, where he drew inspiration from the works of painter Jean-Paul Riopelle, for a daring, inspired encounter between the music and visual arts. His project won the Félix in the category Album of the Year – Instrumental Music.
