In February of 2023, APEM  (the Association des professionnels de l’édition musicale) announced the five winners of its new Synchros de l’année (Syncs of the Year) initiative, a pilot project designed to recognize screen production teams who’ve used Québec music in one of their productions. The initiative was warmly received, as it highlights the synergistic collaboration between music creators, production, and directing teams, as well as music supervising, synchronization, and rights clearance, all working for the benefit of a screen production, while highlighting local music.

Following this success, APEM is calling for submissions to the new edition of Synchros de l’année. The 2024 juried awards will be announced in the Fall, followed by a social media competition for APEM’s first People’s Choice Award, to be presented at the Quand la musique rencontre l’image event this winter.

The selected syncs will receive two grants: one to the screen producer for the production team, and another to the music rights holders. The winners of the People’s Choice Award will receive an additional grant, equally distributed to the producer and the rights holders.

The sync submission deadline is Oct. 6, 2024. Eligible entries include films, series, documentaries, variety shows, trailers, and advertisements, aired for the first time during the period from Sept. 1, 2023, to Aug. 31, 2024. Applications may be submitted by professionals in the screen or music sectors. A file, or access to the chosen scene, must be provided at the time of application.
