SOCAN was pleased and proud to attend Our Night: The First Annual Tegan and Sara Foundation Celebration on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, in the performance space of the Warner Music Group offices in Los Angeles. SOCAN’s Rodney Murphy, Director, A&R, and Camille Mathews, Los Angeles A&R Representative, attended on behalf of SOCAN.
The night included a DJ Set by Samantha Ronson, comedy by Cameron Esposito, and an acoustic performance by Tegan and Sara themselves. While attending, Murphy and Mathews connected with Tegan and Sara’s managers, Nick Blasko and Piers Henwood. Other attendees included Drew Scott, the star of HGTV’s Property Brothers, and Chris Taylor, the Global President of Music at eOne Entertainment. We took the opportunity to let them know about SOCAN’s involvement in the Los Angeles music scene, and our dedication to providing continuous support for our members.
Proceeds from the event went to support Camp Brave Trails, a leadership summer camp for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies, ages 12-18, located in California and Maryland. A few past campers and counselors offered testimonials about how much of a positive impact the camp has had on their lives.
The Tegan and Sara Foundation fights for health, economic justice, and representation for LGBTQ+ girls and women. This mission is founded on a commitment to feminism and racial, social, and gender justice. In partnership and solidarity with other organizations fighting for LGBTQ+ and women’s rights, the Foundation raises awareness and funds to address the inequalities currently preventing LGBTQ+ girls and women from reaching their full potential.
