La Sécurité
The 2023 edition of the annual Gala alternatif de la musique indépendante du Québec (GAMIQ) was held online and in person on Dec. 3, 2023, at Montréal’s Plaza Theatre. It was hosted by columnist and journalist Émilie Rioux, and featuedg performances from about a dozen artists (backed by house band Margaret Tracteur). The gala awarded 37 Luciens, the trophy named in honour of Lucien Francoeur, leader of the legendary group Aut’Chose.
Among the evening’s most prestigious awards, Élisapie won Artist of the Year. Both Population II and La Sécurité earned The Revelation of the Year honour, while the Espoir award (roughly, artist to watch) went to Arielle Soucy, who we recently interviewed. The event also featured a tribute to the late Karl Tremblay, lead singer of Les Cowboys Fringants, who passed away on Nov. 15, 2023.
