Emerging Indigenous musicians are invited to apply now for the 2025 edition of Reverie: The Indigenous Music Residency, a songwriting and artist development program presented by CBC and the SOCAN Foundation, and designed to support them. Applications are now open, until Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. For more information on how to apply, access here. Eligible Indigenous artists are encouraged to submit their songs for consideration here.
Building on the success of 2024’s inaugural program, the residency will provide four Indigenous artists from across Canada with a unique opportunity to develop their craft in a creative and supportive environment, while living and working in Toronto from July 2 to July 31, 2025. Selected artists will work on a new, original song while receiving mentorship from industry professionals, access to CBC’s state-of-the-art production facilities, and valuable networking opportunities. The residency will culminate in a special live performance showcasing their newly-created works.
Selected artists will receive:
- Travel to and from Toronto
- Accommodation for the duration of the residency
- A $2,000 honorarium to cover participation costs (e.g., food, associated living costs)
- Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFM) scale rates applicable for creative work
- A Presto card for public transit in Toronto
- A live performance showcase
- Potential video/documentary coverage to be featured on CBC platforms
- Access to a dedicated producer for program support
- Education and mentorship sessions curated by the SOCAN Foundation
Last year, the inaugural program welcomed an outstanding group of musicians: Logan Staats, Ashley Ghostkeeper, Beaatz, Hasaatuk, Raven Reid, and Wiidaaseh. Their participation laid the foundation for Reverie, and CBC and SOCAN Foundation are thrilled to continue this transformative program, empowering and supporting Indigenous artists.
“Being part of this residency was an unforgettable experience that I’ll cherish forever,” said Beaatz, one of the inaugural program participants. “From the incredible resources provided, to support our creativity, to the strong sense of community that formed, it was truly an honour to take part in such a program.”
“We’re grateful for our partnership with CBC and the Indigenous Advisory Group for their dedicated support to sustain Reverie,” said Charlie Wall-Andrews, Executive Director of SOCAN Foundation. “Through this collaboration, we continue to support and empower Indigenous music creators, by providing them the time and space, mentorship, and key resources to help amplify their creativity.”
