Bands and singer-songwriters from Canada’s Francophone and Indigenous communities are invited to submit their applications no later than Nov. 10, 2024, for this year’s edition of Les Francouvertes. Twenty-one participants will be selected for the competition, and organizers hope this will be a year of diversity in terms of musical styles, cultures, and genres. You can register directly through the Francouvertes website.
The event will run from March 10 to May 12, 2025, at Lion d’Or, Club Soda, and online. The artists will perform their original compositions in front of a live audience, including many representatives of the music industry and the media. The spokespersons for the 2024 edition are Indigenous artist Kanen, a semi-finalist in a previous edition, and Alex Burger, finalist, and winner of the Francouvertes Paroles & Musique grant, several years ago.
Whatever the musical style, Les Francouvertes offers participants a prime showcase for their talent, thanks to the involvement of its partners. The showcase and competition also boasts a host of career-boosting prizes in the form of grants, including the $15,000 SiriusXM award; studio time; promotional and professional support; mentorship; paid shows, with recognized presenters, and performances at major events; as well as a professional video portrait that all participants receive at the close of the event. Since 2023, thanks to a contribution from SiriusXM, each participating project also receives a one-time, fixed amount of $500 for production support.
The online broadcasting and voting platform will also be open to the public during the Francouvertes, so that they can watch and participate in the 11 shows from the comfort of their homes. The free webcast (without voting), introduced last year, will also return, offering participants maximum visibility, and greater exposure to the general public.
The Francouvertes competition takes place in three stages: the preliminaries, the semi-finals, and the finals, for a total of 11 shows, with three acts per show.
