Welcome to Part One of the interviews we conducted backstage at the 2024 edition of the Premier Gala de l’ADISQ, on 30 Oct. 30, 2024, at MTELUS.
Jeremy Dutcher
Already a two-time winner of the prestigious Polaris Music Prize for his albums Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa (2018) and Motewolonuwok (2024), Jeremy Dutcher had yet to win a Félix (ADISQ Award) in his adopted province of Québec – but the artist from the Wolastoqiyik Nation (Malecite) has done just that, after winning in the Album of the Year—Bilingual and Other Languages category. He cherishes the award all the more because it came from the Québec music community, for which he has great admiration.
Le Roy, la Rose et le Lou(p)
The first time Ariane Roy, Thierry Larose, and Lou-Adriane Cassidy took to an outdoor stage at the Francos de Montréal in 2022 under the collective name Le Roy, la Rose et le Lou(p), the trio had no idea it was going to be more than a one-night stand. Two years later, after dozens of shows across Québec, and a live album immortalizing the tidal wave of love for this fresh, bold project, they won the Félix for Show of the Year—Variety/Reinterpretation. We spoke to them after their well-deserved win.
Beyries
After two magnificent albums, sung mainly in English, Beyries chose to sing in her own language on Du feu dans les lilas. She enlisted Joseph Marchand, a musician whose sensitivity she admires, on production duties; for her lyrics, she once again tapped the poetic pen of her long-time accomplice Maxime Le Flaguais. Judicious choices, undoubtedly, since she won the Félix for Album of the Year—Adult Contemporary at the Premier Gala de l’Adisq. We caught up with her backstage.
