SOCAN and the SOCAN Foundation were honoured to co-host a songwriting camp celebrating Canadian Women’s History Month, at the newly-opened Deane Cameron Recording Studio at Massey Hall’s Allied Music Centre, on Oct. 28-29, 2024.
In partnership with Apple Music, Music Publishers Canada (MPC), and Massey Hall, the Women+ Songwriting Camp brought together 11 talented women+ songwriters, artists, and producers from across Canada.
Over the course of the two-day camp, participants collaborated closely to craft new music for an exclusive songwriter brief, channeling their unique perspectives and creativity into each piece. Adding to the excitement, they had the unique opportunity to connect and share their work with L.A.-based music supervisors and executives eager to explore fresh Canadian talent for a project currently under development.
Alumni from SOCAN Foundation’s Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship and MPC’s Women in the Studio National Accelerator program were selected to participate, as were participants in Massey Hall’s Artist Development program. The participating music-makers were Liz Lokre, Bryn McCutcheon and Kirstyn Johnson (of Good Grief), Maddy Simmen, Heather Russell, Samantha Selci, Charmie Deller, Anastasiya Petrova (of Ocevnside Clvb), Breagh Isabel, Savannah Ré, Myya, and Kiki Rowe.
